Grades and Quality

2USE (Second Use) grades every device by how it looks: Like New, Excellent, Very Good or Good. The grade never changes how it works. Every phone passes the same tests, has its battery health measured and comes with a 12-month warranty.

A grade is about looks only.

A Good phone works exactly like a Like New one. Here is what stays the same on every grade.

  • Same tests on every gradeEvery grade passes the same Phonecheck tests.
  • Battery shown separatelyBattery health is measured and shown on each phone.
  • Same 12-month warrantyThe same cover on every grade.
  • The grade is the outsidePick the grade by how much small marks matter to you.
We never open a phone to repair it, and we never replace screens, batteries or other parts. A repaired phone can carry a replacement screen, so every 2USE (Second Use) phone comes with a Phonecheck report that shows its parts history. You can see for yourself that the screen, cameras and battery are the ones it should have.
Original inside, not refurbished.

Same phone. Same tests. You choose the look.

All four grades pass the same Phonecheck hardware test: audio, cameras, connectivity and hardware. The only things that change are the marks on the outside and the price.

Same spot, four grades

The back of the phone, up close. This is the only thing that changes between grades.

Lit from the side, even faint hairlines show up. In daylight most of them are hard to see. That is why a grade can describe marks you may barely notice.
Side light shows every mark.

The charging port, speaker grilles and frame corners are where a phone picks up marks first. So the grade covers the frame on every side, not only the back and screen. The speakers and microphones also go through the same Phonecheck audio test on every grade. When you check a second-hand iPhone before buying, look at these edges first.
The top and bottom count too.

How a phone gets its grade

Every check before a device goes on sale.

  • IMEI and locks checkedThe IMEI is checked against blacklist records and every account lock is removed.
  • Full Phonecheck testAudio, camera, connectivity and hardware tests, with an independent report for that phone.
  • Battery measuredBattery health is measured and shown on the phone's page. It is not part of the grade.
  • Graded by its lookScreen, back and frame are checked by eye and the phone gets one of four grades.
  • Wiped and listedData wiped to NIST 800-88, then listed as it is. Never repaired, no parts swapped.
  • Laptops, tablets and watchesTested and graded the same way, with a Phonecheck report. Original, never repaired, personal data wiped.
Every phone page has a “This specific unit” panel. It shows the grade, the measured battery health with charge cycles, and how many Phonecheck tests that phone passed. Everything in it describes that one phone.

Battery health and charge cycles

Two numbers tell you how much life a battery has left: battery health and charge cycles.

Example: you use 40% on Monday, 30% on Tuesday, 20% on Wednesday and 10% on Thursday. That adds up to 100%, so it counts as one cycle. Fewer cycles means a less used battery. Every phone page shows both numbers: battery health is how much of the original capacity is left, and cycles is how many full charges it has done. Apple builds iPhone 15 and newer to keep 80% health after 1,000 cycles, and older models after 500. The battery does not affect the grade.
One cycle means using 100% of the battery, even if you charge it many times.
