Data Erasure

Every device that reaches 2USE (Second Use) is erased before anyone else uses it, free of charge. On phones the erase runs through Phonecheck, and its report records "Securely erased", the erase type (NIST 800-88) and the date. The next owner gets the phone, and nothing of yours.
Your data leaves with you. Not with the phone.

The standards behindevery erase.

Phonecheck is the erasure software we run on every phone. Its report shows four marks in the erasure section: the ADISA product claims test, NAID AAA, ISO and NIST SP 800-88. They are Phonecheck's marks, printed on the report linked from each phone.

Your data's journeyends with you.

Five steps from your hands to the next owner. Even if you forget to erase your phone, we erase it again before it is tested and sold.

Selling? Three thingsbefore you hand it over.

Back up what you want to keep, sign out of your Apple ID so Find My turns off, then erase all content and settings. A phone that is still locked to an account cannot be accepted.

Open the phone's report from its listing and find the erasure result: "Securely erased", the erase type and the date. It is there on every phone we sell.
Buying? Check the erase line yourself.

The sticker on every 2USE box carries the phone's test results: Erased: Yes, FMI/FRP: OFF (Find My and the Google account lock are off), battery health, grade and the test date. Its QR code opens the same Phonecheck report that is linked from the phone's page. Check it the moment your phone arrives.
Even the box says it.

What NIST 800-88 means

NIST SP 800-88 is the guideline from the US National Institute of Standards and Technology on media sanitisation: how to wipe data from a device so it cannot be recovered. It is the standard named on the erase line of our phone reports. Read the guideline on the NIST website.
